Jan. 27 - International Holocaust Rembrance Day

On 27 January 1945 the largest Nazi death camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau (Poland) was liberated by Soviet troops.

In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated this day as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD), an annual day of commemoration to honor the victims of the Nazi era. It was designated by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 60/7 on 1 November 2005 during the 42nd plenary session.

Every UN States have an obligation to honor the memory of Holocaust victims and develop educational programs as part of an international resolve to help prevent future acts of genocide.
