Borodino 70 miles west of Moscow. Both sides suffer heavy losses, but the defeated Russians manage to retreat to Moscow, where they evacuate the population & retreat again. As Napoleon's forces arrive, the city is set ablaze, leaving Napoleon's large but starving army with no means to survive the coming Russian winter.
