International Museum Day / Dia Internacional dos Museus

International Museum Day, since 1977, has been celebrated around the world because «Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, co-operation and peace among peoples».

Each year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) selects a theme. The theme for 2009 is «Museums and Tourism».
