Terminou o Euro 2008 que concentrou as atenções durante este mês de Junho. A Espanha sagrou-se campeã da Europa com todo o mérito, superando a força alemã, que demonstrou muitas insuficiências designadamente defensivas, que Portugal não conseguiu explorar.
Portugal ficou aquém das expectativas: duas vitórias e duas derrotas. Não digam agora que foi o anúncio da saída de Scolari, porque também a saída de Aragonés foi noticiada durante a prova e a Espanha foi campeã. Erros defensivos (guarda-redes incluido) impediram que a técnica e imaginação portuguesa avançasse mais na prova. Ou terá sido a surpreendente derrota da Alemanha frente à Croácia que pôs os alemães mais cedo no nosso caminho?
Desilusões para França (a maior de todas) e Itália, que ainda assim chegou aos quartos de final, como nós. A Holanda fez um futebol demuito agrado mas tombou frente à Rússia. Rússia e Turquia tiveram um desempenho muito positivo ao atingirem as meias-finais.
David Villa com 4 golos foi o melhor marcador, mesmo sem jogar a final.
Benfica é campeão de futsal
O Benfica junta assim o campeonato de futsal ao título de campeão nacional na modalidade de andebol e ao campeonato de juvenis de futebol, pouca coisa para a grandiosidade do clube.

Afonso Schmidt nasceu em Cubatão (SP) a 29 de Junho de 1890 e morreu em São Paulo a 31 de Março de 1964. Apenas com a instrução primária, foi um autodidacta que se consagrou ao jornalismo. Fez duas viagens aventurosas à Europa (1906/07 e 1912/13). É autor de uma literatura participante, de sentido populista, e partidário de um igualitarismo utópico, que representa a sua ânsia de justiça social. Sobretudo contista, estreou-se nas letras como poeta: «Janelas Abertas» (1912).
