First launched in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, World Theatre Day is celebrated on 27 March throughout the world.
Every year, a personality well known for his/her good will and intellectual merits is invited to share thoughts on the theme of theatre and peace. This year Augusto Boal - a Brazilian theatre director, writer and activist - made his World Theatre Day Statement on March 25, 2009 at a celebration at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.
