Remembering Ingmar Bergman on his 90th birthday

Ernst Ingmar Bergman born in Upsala, Sweden on July 14, 1918 (d. July 30, 2007 in Fårö, Sweden). He was a Swedish film, stage, and opera director. He depicted bleakness and despair as well as comedy and hope in his explorations of the human condition. He is recognized as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of modern cinema. In his 40-year career, Bergman made about 50 films – and made a star of his muse, actress Liv Ullmann. Nine-time Academy Award-nominated, only as Best Foreign Language Picture his films won for three times. Anyway his career brought a plenty of awards and nominations.

The Seventh Seal (Det sjunde inseglet), Wild Strawberries (Smultronstället), Persona, The Virgin Spring in 1961; Through a Glass Darkly in 1962, Cries and Whispers (Viskningar och rop - 1972), Fanny and Alexander (Fanny och Alexander), and the comedy Smiles of a Summer Night are some of the best known Bergman films.
