Lust Caution is the new film from Ang Lee, the Academy Award-winning director of Brokeback Mountain and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It is based on the short story by Chinese author Eileen Chang, and stars Asian cinema icon Tony Leung with the screen newcomer Tang Wei.
In Shanghai, 1942, during The Second World War, Japanese occupies China. A young Chinese student girl left behind by father and finds herself, in amongst a group of students, has an objective: to kill an important politician who is colaborating with Japanese occupiers. The plan fails.
Three years later the plan is revalidated. The politician is now an important Minister and Wong Chia Chi (Tang Wei) enters into resistence. Well after that the emotions, sex and diamonds make enough pressure to affect both principal characters. Lust, Caution is a tale of two lonely people, forced by circumstances to do what they have to. The weaker one fails ...
