He was awarded with two Oscars for the best actor in On the Waterfront (1954) and The Godfather (1972), and was nominated other several times [Nominated Best Actor in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951); Viva Zapata! (1952) , Julius Caesar (1953), Sayonara (1957) , Ultimo tango a Parigi (1972) and for best Supporting Actor in A Dry White Season (1989)].

Marlon Brando turned down the (second) Academy Award and boycotted the award ceremony, sending an Indian, little-known actress Sacheen Littlefeather to state his reasons, which were based on his objections to the depiction of Native Americans by Hollywood and television.

In his autobiography in 1994 Songs My Mother Taught Me, Brando claimed he showed up one night at Marilyn Monroe's apartment and they started an affair that lasted many years. He also claimed numerous other romances, although he did not discuss his marriages, his wives, or his children in his autobiography.

On October 11th 1957, Brando marries the actress Anna Kashfi, from Wales. His second marriage is to Mexican actress Movita Castaneda, in 1960.

Without Marlon Brando and his special way of acting, the History of cinema would have been different. He was also a serious activist for the Civil Rights Movement and for the Native American Indians.
