At 21 minutes, Rui Costa put Benfica ahead and Nuno Gomes gave them a 2-0 advantage just before half-time.

Petit completed the score by scoring Benfica's last goal at 57 minutes, leaving the Portuguese team with a 4-1 aggregate success over the Austrian team.
