O Sporting foi um justo vencedor do Torneio do Guadiana, conseguindo bater os espanhóis do Coruña no último jogo por 1-0 e repetindo o triunfo neste Torneio já alcançado na época passada.
Uma boa primeira parte leonina permitou ganhar vantagem no marcado aos 26' após uma tabelinha que isolou Nani pela esquerda o cruzamento para a área com a defesa espanhola deescompensada permitiu a Deivid fazer o golo de pé esquerdo. Já antes Romagnoli havia levado perigo à baliza do Coruña mas o remate cruzado ao 2º. poste saiu ao lado. Aos 36' Nani esteve perto de fazer o 2-0 mas o renate desviado ainda por Fabricio bateu na barra.
Na segunda parte finalmente viu-se o Coruña com preocupações em atacar neste Torneio e os espanhóis foram ganhando alguma superioridade. Uma falta de Ronni à saída da área defensiva concedeu um penalty aos espanhóis que Sérgio desperdiçou ao atirar por cima da barra.
O guarda-redes suplente do Sporting Rui Patrício, entrado ao intervalo, evitou com uma excelente defesa o empate a Riki mas foi o Sporting que a jogar agora em contra-ataque viria a desperdiçar duas excelentes oportunidades (a segunda com tempo para ir à praia tomar banho e voltar para marcar o golo!) por Djaló que tendo estado em evidencia contra o Benfica por marcar dois golos, aqui esteve em evidencia por desperdiçar outros tantos.
